Staging an enginepart.
Our first assignment was to dismantle an engine-block choose an interesting part and stage it's function in a cast made from plaster. The cast had to be square on the outside while the inside was confined to a 2x2cm orthogonal grid. Later we had to build a wireframe and work with the negative space it created.
